Needed : recipe.

I have rice and I have water.
What can I make?

To all you young chefs out there. Help!

Chocolate and almond cookies

Fellow chef : Philippe.
Dinning companion : no one ate anything.
Serving suggestions : see picture.

I picked this recipe because I felt like making cookies and these looked great on the picture. They all ended up in the trash! A couple of minutes after we put them in the oven, it was already smelling like something was burning. But we pushed on until our three fire alarms went off! (Only 8 minutes out of a 12!) I think the recipe is missing an ingredient or two. Something was really wrong.

On the bright side, the burning smell overtook the fresh paint smell! I think it's an improvement.

Strawberry Daiquiri!

Frankly, I've been blogging because the movie that Philippe and I are watching is extremely weird. We actually stopped it for a bit... now it's back on. Still weird.

The strawberry daiquiri is an other one of our classics! We make it every time Teena comes to our place (and requests it).

1 1/2 ounces light rum
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
2 ounces simple syrup
1 ounce fresh lime juice
5 strawberries

Blend all the ingredients with crushed ice and serve in a large goblet.
Garnish with a strawberry.

I have not found maraschino liqueur in massachusetts. I'm hoping that my upcoming trip to New Hampshire will turn some up. In the mean time I'm using a mix of amaretto and cherry liqueur.

Quite good.

Pina Colada!

This is an amazing recipe. I don't have a picture, but we make it quite regularly. I thought it was worth including our regulars.

2 ounces of light rum
6 ounces of pineapple juice
2 ounces of coconut cream
Crushed ice
Pineapple spear
Maraschino cherry

Put the ice, the rum, the juice and the cream in a blender and blend until uniform.
Put in cocktail class and decorate with pineapple and cherry.

Sake Cosmo!!!

Ben came over for dinner and brought us a good bottle of sake. Once he was gone we decided to try a sake cocktail. The sake cosmo appealed to us. Here's the recipe.

3 ounces of sake
1/2 ounces of Cointreau
1 ounce cranberry juice
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
Lime twist

Shake all liquid ingredients vigorously with ice.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Twist the lime peel over the drink, and drop it in.

This drink was GREAT! One of the best so far. (Well except the really well-known ones.)

Banana Daiquiri... sort of.

Here's tonight drink.
Banana daiquiri. Well, my own personal take on it. Here's what I put in it.
  • One banana
  • 2 oz Banana rum
  • 1 oz Lime juice
  • A dash of cherry liqueur.
  • Crushed ice
Put everything in the blender and voila!

It was not perfect. But it was pretty good. I was looking for a way to use the banana rum I made a while back. I think it needed something more. This recipe tasted like a smoothie. I tried adding Kahlua and it was better. I'll try it next time with Maraschino liqueur. (If I can find some.)

Yes, I know it's been a while. See I had lost my camera's charger and was totally unable to take pictures. And then my dog peed on my homework. I swear, it was freaky!

Friday night, Philippe and I tried some cocktail from "The Ultimate Bar Book". I quite like this book. It has TONS of recipies and order them by main ingredients. We felt like trying some of the rum section.

The first one we tried was "Bolero #2" which was horrible!!! We don't have a picture because we threw it down the drain too fast!

Here are a couple of cocktails that we actually liked.

First one : Bahama Mama. Here is the recipe.
  • 1 oz Dark rum
  • 1/2 oz Coconut rum
  • 1/2 oz Coffee liqueur
  • 4 oz Pineapple juice
  • 1 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon 151-proof Rum
You should shake all ingredients but the 151-proof Rum in a shaker with ice. And then poor it into a chilled cocktail glass and float the 151 on top.

Frankly, we didn't follow this recipe completely. We skipped the 151-proof Rum. We also used white rum instead of dark since the last drops of our dark rum had just been thrown down the drain! But the drink was very nice and interesting. The coffee liqueur and the coconut gave it a rich nutty flavor. But the drink still was light and fruity because of the pineapple and lemon.

Second One : Sex on the beach #1.
Alright I admit to two things. First, no rum. Second, I had made that one before. But after the bolero fiasco, I decided to go for a sure bet.
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Peach Schnapps
  • 3 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
  • 3 oz Cranberry juice
I used "unfresh" grapefruit juice and pomegranate juice instead of cranberry. I'm a rebel.

That's all for our friday night. Well, we also watched "Why we fight". It was quite depressing. Need more drinks!
